Weekly Learning Review

Class:   FS2         Week Ending: 24.5.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week, we focused on the digraphs /oy/ and /oi/ and we noticed lots of pictures like (coins, soil, foil, join, voice, spoil,  joy boy, annoy, toys ). The children guessed the names and  tried to write the words independently. We also practised our blending skills using familiar sounds. We focused on forming sentences by filling in the missing word in the sentence. High frequency words for this week – (with, old, of)
“Treasure in the Garden” was the story of the week.  We asked the children focus on any changes that were in the story.
We focused on reading a higher level library book to encourage the children to read and to improve their reading and blending skills.


Physical Development
This week, we focused on cutting within the lines; writing on a line; leaving finger space between the words.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development  
We focused on the word “Resilience” and what it means. We gave examples to the children like (we never give up on our work; we always try; we never say I don’t know; we always say I will try my best? )
Understanding of the World  Around Us
We talked about maps in past and in present.
Mathematics
We focused on counting forwards and backwards from 50 and we are learning to tell the time.
Expressive Art and Design
Each child coloured and decorated a paper watch.

Weekly Learning Review -Week Ending: 17th of May

Class:   FS2         Week Ending: 17.5.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week, we focused on the digraphs /or/ and /ar/  and we learnt lots of words that  have sounds like car, far, bar, star and for, more, storm, torn, born, corn and sports. We also practised our blending skills using familiar sounds. We focused on forming sentences by undertaking filling in the missing word in the sentences activity. High frequency words for this week – ( they,this,why)
“The Ugly Duckling” was the story of the week.  We asked the children to focus on any changes that were in the story.
We focused on reading a higher level library book to encourage reading and to improve  reading and blending skills.


Physical Development
This week, we focused on cutting within the lines; writing on a line; leaving finger spaces between the words; holding paint brushes; using paint and painting within the lines carefully without taking lots of paint on the brush and trying not to go out of the lines while painting.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development  
We focused on the word “Empathy” and what it means. We gave examples to the children like ‘If someone falls down, will you laugh at her/ him?’; ‘What will you do in this situation?’. You should help her/ him out and not laugh at her/ him.
Understanding of the World  Around Us
We learned about the life cycle of a duck; the name of each stage and how it grows.
Mathematics
We focused on word problems; identifying “all together” in a paragraph thus meaning that they are adding and finding “How many left?thus meaning that they will need to take away.

Expressive Art and Design
 The children enjoyed making Ramadan Lanterns and crafts.

Weekly Learning Review- Week Ending: 3 May 2018

Weekly Learning Review



Class:   FS2         Week Ending: 5.3.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week, we focused on the vowel digraphs /ee/ and /nk/. We also practised our blending skills using familiar sounds. High frequency words for this week – ( some, do, by)
“Oliver and Patch” was the story of the week.  We asked the children focus on any changes that were in the story.


Physical Development
This week, we focused on writing sentences on the line; improving pencil grip and maintaining control  We reminded the children that all sentences start with a capital letter and end with a full stop.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development  
We focused on the word “cooperation” and what it means.  We asked the children cooperate with each other and work together on a project.
Understanding of the World  Around Us
We learned about different homes.  How homes were in the past and how they have changed in the present.
Mathematics
We continued with our focus on subtraction to 10, and we looked at numbers before and after a number. We also practised reciting and writing the numbers 1-50 as well as counting backwards. 
Expressive Art and Design
 From the story Oliver and Patch, the children role played the story.

Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending:26 April 2018

Weekly Learning Review

Class:   FS2                    Week Ending: 26.04.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week, we looked at digraphs -ai and ay-. Our sight words for this week were – for, went, play. This week’s story was called Pinocchio and the children had fun sorting out the story in the correct order.   
Physical Development
This week, we worked on our cutting skills; we cut on straight and curved lines and we had fun cutting out pictures and sticking them in the correct order.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development & 
We continued with the theme ‘Respect’. The children understood that we should not only show respect to people but also to animals and the environment around us.
Understanding of the World  Around Us
This week, we compared toys past with toys present. We had fun looking for similarities and differences in these two groups of toys. We saw that in the past we didn’t have remote control cars but now we do.
Mathematics
This week, we introduced subtraction; we looked at subtraction vocabulary, namely – subtraction, take away and less, and next week we will continue working on the skill of taking away as well as recognizing the vocabulary associated with it. We also practised writing our numbers 1- 50.
Expressive Art and Design
This week, we had fun singing and as well as role playing characters in the story we read.
